Discover the history of laptop development
Discover the development history of laptopsLaptop is a breakthrough technology in each period of social development. Currently, there are many different laptop manufacturers and models to serve the purposes and requirements of people.
However, not everyone knows the history of laptops and the process of going from giant machines to compact devices like today.
The world's first laptops
The first laptop was born in the form of a large suitcase weighing more than 9kg in 1981 called Osborne 1.
Adam Osborne is an American inventor who researched and manufactured Osborne 1. With a Zilog Z80 4 MHz processor, Osborne 1 only has a meager 64Kb of built-in Ram. The screen of this first laptop is only black and white with a resolution of 52x24 pixels with two 5.25-inch floppy disks integrated.
The next laptop released in the world has a shell style called GRiD Compass 1100.
Released in 1982, this GRiD Compass 1100 was powered by an Intel 8086 processor with a CGA display, 1,200Bps modem. The most surprising thing is that this laptop has only 340Kb of magnetic ball memory and runs the GRiD OS operating system. The product is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard that allows users to have a high application experience.
No one would have expected that the price of this GRiD Compass 1100 is up to 8,000 - 10,000 USD, equivalent to about 20 cheap laptops today.
It is believed that NASA has acquired this product to serve astronauts in space.
Following the history of the birth of the laptop
To mark the makeover for the above laptops is the Compaq LTE with the shape of modern laptops. This Compaq LTE appeared in 1989 and was designed to be much more compact than the Osborne 1 and GRiD Compass.
The weight of this makeover laptop model is just over 3kg and the design is more beautiful. Owning an Intel 8086 processor allows storing more data. It is known that the clock speed of this Compaq LTE is 9.55MHz with 640Kb of RAM. The machine has a good display with a resolution of 640x200 pixels and a 20Mb hard drive.
In 1992, the ThinkPad 700 series laptops were introduced to the market. The special thing about this machine is the pointer control key, also known as the trackpad. This is the prototype of today's famous Lenovo IBM ThinkPad business laptops.
The machine uses IBM 486 SLC 25MHz processor, 4Mb RAM. 80Mb or 120Mb hard drive, 9.5inch screen with 640x480 pixel resolution.
By 1993, the Apple PowerBook 500 series was born. This is said to be a complete model of a modern laptop with a touchpad and many other technologies.
The memory of the Apple PowerBook 500 series is 4Mb RAM with a display from 9.5 - 10.4inch for a resolution of 640x400 pixels. About the processor clocked from 25 - 33MHz, HDD hard drive capacity from 160 - 750Mb.
In 1998, the most popular laptop model with netbook concept was HP Jornada 820. With Windows CE operating system and touchpad, Jornada 820 brought many conveniences to users. This laptop is integrated with a screen with a resolution of 640x480 pixels, Intel StrongARM 190MHz processor and 16Mb RAM.
The year 2000 marked a major turning point in laptop technology that the Acer Travelmate C100 was designed with a rotating screen. This tablet is equipped with a 10.4-inch screen with a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels that can be rotated at many angles at will. The weight of TravelMate C100 is nearly 1.5kg with Intel Pentium 3 processor clocked at 900MHz. RAM memory is 512Mb and HDD 40Gb.
The HP Pavilion dv2000 series opened in 2006 with a beautiful, luxurious design with an elaborate exterior appearance.
The market in 2007 ushered in the era of Asus Eee PC 701 - mini laptop. Possessing a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 800x480 pixels, this Asus Eee PC 701 can completely capture the market. However, its keyboard is quite small due to the netbook design weighing less than 1kg. This product has stirred up the market not only in terms of design, features, even the relatively cheap price of less than 400 USD. From here, the competition of laptop brands such as cer, MSI, HP, Lenovo, Dell, and even Samsung is much bigger.
2008 was the year when the technology market looked more objectively about the ultraportable laptop. The launch of Apple MacBook Air has breathed new life into laptop technology because of its thinness and ultra-lightweight. However, those things do not lose the mobility of the machine, modern Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2Gb RAM and 80Gb hard drive.
Through many periods of technology development, laptops are gradually asserting their position and constantly improving to meet the essential needs of people.
